Rapist sentenced to a further 65 years in prison

Rogers Hlongwane (38) was sentenced in the Evander Regional Court to an additional 65 years’ effective jail term when he appeared in court on Monday, 30 January on two counts of rape and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The effective 65 years’ jail term include two life sentences for rape and 15 years for a robbery.

Hlongwane’s life of violence was halted when he was sentenced to 40 years in jail for various other rape cases on 14 June 2013.

During supplementary investigation, it emerged he was also accountable for two further cases of rape that he was recently convicted for.

The court applauded the investigators for working tirelessly and presenting ardent as well as indispensable evidence that assisted the court in proving his guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
