Vukanini Taxi Association members arrested in eMba

Police said they were doing their regular patrol when they saw men with their faces covered with balaclava stopping a Lamavuso Bus in Extension 12 earlier today.

eMBALENHLE – Two members of the Vukanini Taxi  Association were  arrested this morning.

This came after they allegedly smashed a bus over route conflict.

Police said they were doing their  regular patrol when they saw men with their faces covered with  balaclava stopping a Lamavuso Bus in Extension 12 earlier today.

It is alleged that the men smashed the windows of the bus.

Police apprehended them and were taken to the eMbalenhle Police Station.
Mr Fanyana Sibanyoni,  chairman for Vukta,  said this conflict began when Lamavuso Buses began to operate in the association route to Sasol with out a permit.
He said they have held several  meetings with the Lamavuso Buses management and agreed that they will stop operating on 31 January.

“We were shocked when we invited to a meeting at the Secunda Police Station and we were told that there is an conflict. We did not know about that because our meeting with the company was healthy and progressive. We have an email from them confirming that they will stop operating on 31 January.”

He said the company did not keep to their word and continued.
Mr Sibanyoni said in a meeting yesterday that the company showed them that they now have permit to operate in the area.
He said it is irony that the company has a permit without their knowledge.
“Which procedure did they follow? The procedure is that a local association should apply for a member to get a permit through the municipality.
That procedure was not followed.”

According to him, as of tomorrow until further notice, they  will embark on a stay-away and no taxis will operate in the area.
He called on commuters to inform their employers.
The Ridge Times made several attempt to contact Mr Morris Shabalala CEO of the Lamavuso Transport but he was not available on his phone.
