10 most common New Year’s Resolutions

We all want to achieve a few goals in the New Year and start off on a new slate so to speak.

When the clock strikes 12 at the end of the year, we can’t help but entertain the idea of a New Year’s resolution.

We all spend ages looking back and reflecting on our lives, finding something we want to achieve in the new year and start off on a new slate so to speak.

But after a month or two in, we seem to lose track of the goals we set for ourselves at the beginning of the year.

According to SouthAfrican.com; the most popular resolutions for most people include the following and here are some ways to stick to it.

  • Get fit which include eating healthier as well– Diet and exercise. Keep a record of your current food intake. Try out some dieting and exercise apps which constantly remind you on a daily basis of what you need to be doing. There are some great apps which are free.
  • Drink less – Be aware of what you are drinking, as alcohol units vary by which drink you prefer. It may be shocking to know that three single shot gin and tonics carry the same alcohol units as a single large glass of wine.  The guide for woman’s consumption every day is between 2-3 units. For men, it’s between 3-4. So that can be a medium glass of wine or a pint, or three gin and tonics each.

  • Save more – The best and easiest way to do this is to setup a separate bank account without card access, which makes it more difficult for you to get the money out.  Then deposit small amounts into the new bank account there each time you can. Stay committed and you will reap the rewards

  • Travel more – If this is something you’re serious about then make it happen. If it takes you years to save up the money, then do it. Make your dreams come true.

Quit smoking – Quitting smoking is stressful and incredibly difficult. But ultimately it will certainly be better for you. Consult your GP as to the best way forward to do this because each person is different and working with your health care professional is the most effective way forward.

  • Learn a new skill – The New Year often provides great opportunities to form new habits. There are useful online tools to find local groups or classes in your area. Be excited for a new future. It is your life and you are answerable only to yourself, so live your life as best you can
  • Learn a new language – Enroll in a course or hire a mentor to help you learn a language you’ve always wanted to tackle.

  • Study something – The world is full of possibilities and it’s never too late to learn something new. Believe in yourself and push forward. Knowledge is power.
