Gugu warn women about abusive relationships

“We always tell ourselves it will get better and he will change.”

eMBALENHLE – Ms Gugu Guzana Zulu who is also a Plus Size Diva, took to social media as part of the campaign against domestic violence.

She used her previous abusive relationship experience as a way of encouraging women.

In her story she said, “getting out of an abusive relationship is the most difficult thing ever, but that’s the best thing you can do for yourself as a woman.

“I have been in an abusive relationship and I can tell you it’s never easy to walk away.”

Ms Zulu said that being a police officer and knowing the law, she still finds herself in that situation and being ashamed of coming out and reporting the matter.

She said most women tend to live a lie and trying hard to show people that they are happy even when they know they are not because they are scared to be judged.

“We always tell ourselves it will get better and he will change.

“No, you need to change and start loving yourself enough to know that you deserve better and put a stop to the situation you are in,” Ms Zulu advised.

According to her getting out is the beginning of freedom.

“I always feel like I didn’t protect myself enough.

“The physical scars are gone but the emotional ones remained,” added Ms Zulu.

She said when you are in an abusive relationship, you tend to forgive the other person because you feel if you hold a grudge against him, it will imprison you.

“I am a survivor of domestic violence and support 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children.

“Don’t suffer in silence, speak up and let us break the silence.”
