Suspect arrested with 43 packets of drugs

“The police will make sure that whenever we are on duty, we fight the root causes of crime and its social injustice.”

BETHAL – The local police are concerned about the increase in the number of drug lords and dealers in the area and the police are using any source that could lead to their arrest.

Const Thomas Mogadime, communications and Social Crime Prevention officer at the Bethal Police Station, said the police arrested Mr Thabo Mahlangu for possession of 43 packets of substances suspected to be drugs wrapped in brown plastic.

Police officers on duty stopped and asked to search the suspect.

He agreed and the officers found a package that was hidden in his clothes.

It was confiscated and the man was arrested for possession of a substance suspected to be Nyaope.

“Crime is increasing in our area because of drug users who are so addicted that when they do not have money to support their addiction, they think of committing crime.

“Drug dealers do not use drugs because that they know that it destroys one’s future.

“The police will make sure that whenever we are on duty, we fight the root causes of crime and its social injustice.

“Going forward, we will strive by all means to eradicate all social ills that bother our law abiding citizens,” said Const Mogadime.

The suspect was taken to Bethal Police cells for detention and the substance was sent for forensic analysis.

He will appear in Bethal Magistrate’s Court soon.
