Water pipe bursts, thousands of litres lost

A water pipe apparently burst in Bethal at the intersection of Vuyisile Mini and Chris Hani street.

BETHAL – A water pipe apparently burst on Thursday evening, 29 September at the intersection at Vuyisile Mini and Chris Hani Street.

The Govan Mbeki Municipality attended to the problem as soon as it was reported.

By the Friday, the problem was resolved.

Govan Mbeki is introducing water restrictions to reduce water consumption in response to the current drought.

The first phase will be reduction of water pressure in all areas and high water users are requested to reduce their consumption by 10 per cent.

The restrictions will be applied until a 15 per cent water reduction is realised by the municipality.

South Africa is a water scarce country and all citizens are required to be prudent in managing this resource.

The drought is affecting our supply from Rand Water and it is therefore critical that water conservation measures be implemented.

There will be no alternative water supply during the water restrictions.

Industries that can use recycled water are encouraged to contact the municipality on options that might be available.
