Residents blame police for incompetence

Police urge residents to cooperate and to supply them with any useful information.

eMBALENHLE – Residents are accusing the local police of being incompetent and negligent after a crime suspect had escaped in Extension 22.

They said the police were called to a scene after a plumber had discovered a fetus in a drain.

The police allegedly responded quickly, however they did not investigate and residents said this led to the suspect getting away with her crime.

“The friends of the woman who did this, was on the scene.

“If the police had asked questions, they would have received the necessary information to make an arrest.

“Though we knew what had happened, they did not create a platform for us to give statements.

“I was disappointed with them and was scared to confront them, because I do not trust them anymore.”

Residents condemn people who are offering illegal abortions in the area and urged the police to fight this crime.

Capt Magonseni Nkosi, police spokesman, understands the concerns of the residents, but said residents should always cooperate with police in giving them information.

“Usually a scene like this draws a large crowd and it is not always easy to predict who knows what.”

He urged residents to help the police with any information that can result in crime reduction.
