Police warn of new hijacking-hot spot

"They pretend as if their vehicle is broken and stop passing vehicles for assistance.”

The Standerton Police warn motorists to watch out for hijackers on the road between Standerton and Secunda.

According to Capt Fanie Nhlabathi, communications officer of the Standerton Police, the hijackers mostly operate at night.

He said they use different strategies on unsuspecting drivers.

“They pretend as if their vehicle is broken and stop passing vehicles for assistance.

“They also stop motorists and ask for directions, then more people appear out of nowhere and take your vehicle.”

He also said they use different vehicles when committing this criminal offence.

According to Capt Nhlabathi, they have also increased their visibility in that area.
