Behind bars for fake kidnapping

eMBALENHLE – A 33-year-old man will appear in the Evander Magistrate’s Court for defeating the hands of justice after kidnapping allegations.

According to the police, the man disappeared for days and claimed he was kidnapped.

It is alleged that after he had disappeared, unknown people called his girlfriend and claimed they had kidnapped the man and demanded R5 000.

The girlfriend reported the kidnapping.

The man alleged that he was kidnapped, taken to a place he does not know and was assaulted.

Capt Magonseni Nkosi, police spokesman, said upon investigation the police established that the suspect was lying.

“We charged him for defeating the hands of justice.

“Police have a serious job to do to prevent crime and to protect residents.

“We regard this as a serious crime and hope he will face prosecution for his actions.”

Capt Nkosi said residents must refrain from reporting false crimes.
