Union members protest in Leandra

Protesters say they are ill treated by employer.

LEANDRA – Members of the South African Chemical Workers Union are protesting outside the premises of Rossgro Poultry and Eggs, demanding recognition of their union.

They allege that the employer does not want to recognise their union, “because he is hiding his dirty work”.

They said they joined the union because they want someone to represent them as the company is ill treating them.

They accuse the company of racism and intimidation.

Ms Yvonne Bezuidenhout, HR manager of the company, said they are aware of the protest, however she could not comment further as they are trying to deal with the matter internally.

“As a company we respect their right to protest.

“We are meeting with their union tommorow.

“Our legal representative will then release a statement.”
