Electrocuted girl buried in Lebohang

The girl passed away immediately before she could be taken to the clinic.

LEBOHANG – A seven-year-old girl who died after being electrocuted by a light pole, was buried on Sunday 14 August.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, 10 August while she was playing with her friends on the street.

Other children who witnessed the incident said the girl ran towards the light pole and held it while they were playing. She immediately collapsed.

They reported the incident to adults nearby who then tried to rush her to the clinic.

“She couldn’t make it to the clinic and she passed on.. My daughter would have been turning 8 years next month, 10 September,” said Mr Charlie Jacobs, father of the child.

The child’s mother received the bad news while she was at work. Her husband said it is still difficult for her to understand what happened.

Mr Jacobs called Eskom to inform of them of what took place and they referred him to the Govan Mbeki Municipality.

He then accompanied one of the manager’s of the Govan Mbeki Municipality to the area in which the incident took place. Since then, nothing has been said or done except for switching off all lights on that particular street. Residents said the lights were on for 24 hours.

“My wife is traumatized, especially the children who witnessed the incident and counseling should have been arranged so far for them but nothing was arranged,” said Mr Jacobs.

W/O Khuselwa Matrose said an inquest docket has been opened and they are investigating.
