Jabulani is missing

"I can't stop worrying about him. I wonder if he is warm, if he has food to eat, if people are kind to him and every day I wonder if he is still alive." - Mother.

For Ms Anna Thwala the last three-and-a-half years have been filled with heartache, anxiety and longing ever since her son Jabulani went missing from a hospital in Venda.

At the time, Jabulani who is now about 48 years old, was being treated for a mental illness.

According to Anna, the only information she has about her son’s disappearance is that he was seen by security guards as he walked out through the gates of the institution on 1 February 2013.

She has searched for him ever since and tried by all possible means to locate him.

“I can’t stop worrying about him. He may be mentally disturbed, but he is still my son. I wonder if he is warm, if he has food to eat and if the people where he may be living are kind to him. Every day I wonder if he is still alive.

“I still can’t understand how they could simply let him walk out, knowing full well that he was a mental patient. Jabulani knew his name. If you asked him his name, he would tell you straight away: ‘Jabulani Thwala’, but that was about all. He did not know where he lived and could not say who his relatives were,” said Anna.

Anna believes Jabulani could have found his way to the Embalenhle or Secunda region or even Bethal, Ermelo or further north.

Anyone who recognises Jabulani or has any information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Anna Thwala on 072 885 5472.
