Secunda town centre gets a facelift

The Secunda CBD has been revitalised by the efforts a local landlords and business owners, making it a safe and relaxing shopping destination once again.

SECUNDA – The central business district (CBD) now looks nearly unrecognisable.

There have been extensive beautification initiatives throughout the whole town centre.

The goal of this project was to revive this area once so cherished by local communities.

The project was inspired by the need to sustain and resuscitate the CBD as it still provides much retail activity due to its proximity to the taxi rank and many other retail and service related offerings.

The project began a few years ago to secure and clean up the area and to solidify its new reality of a secondary retail component of the town.

The initial focus was on cleanliness and security

Secunda Mid Town Centres are clearly distinguishable from the other adjoining buildings, because its landlord firmly believed that once cleanliness and security are well established, local residents will once again be comfortable to stroll through the businesses.

This has now been achieved and the relaxing shopping vibe attracts the correct dynamic for further economic growth, which will lead to job creation.

The resuscitation process is focused primarily around the four buildings that form the Secunda Mid Town Centres, which include Secunda Square, Secunda Town Centre, Secunda Central and the Secunda Square Apartments.

It is clear that the vision was to encourage a friendly “work, play and shop” environment, because of the residential component, the various shopping centres and the numerous service providers that include financial and medical services.

Although the main construction and refurbishing project will be finalised in the near future, the process of uplifting the CBD will be an ongoing initiative and the community is invited to engage with the business owners and landlords in the area.

The hope is that the renovated CBD will be firmly adopted by the community.

The town has grown to accommodate the regional mall and the addition of a SuperSpar in the CBD, therefore it only makes sense that the Secunda CBD must anchor the shopping district with its historic presence as the centre of town.

A centre that is adopted by a community provides a solid local economic platform and local residents are encouraged to stroll through the CBD and decide for themselves.
