Rapes and robberies mar weekend

Two 15-year-old girls were reportedly raped by two men in Wesselton’s Thutukani section on Friday.

The victims were able to identify both suspects.

A spokesman for the police in Ermelo, W/O Dumi Sibeko, said the girls were at the Thembisa Shopping Complex at about 18:00 when the suspects approached them and offered to buy them Kotas (a bread snack).

The girls were then convinced to accompany the suspects to a house on the pretext of fetching more money to buy them cool drinks.

The suspects allegedly then raped the minors.

*On Tuesday 10 May at about 18:30, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped after three men accosted her in Klipbou.
The girl reportedly left her mother’s house that evening and came back the next morning, saying she had been raped by one of the men.
Police investigations are continuing.

*Cases of armed robbery and burglary were also reported over the weekend.
At about 02:00 on Sunday morning, the owner of a tuck shop in Thusi Village was sleeping in the shop when he was awakened by the sound of a wall breaking.
He tried to phone for help, but was confronted by four armed men who had entered the premises.

They held him at gunpoint and looted cigarettes and cash to the value of R2 400.

*The owner of a business in Saratoga Avenue in the industrial section reported a case of burglary after two car batteries and two car jacks worth about R3 000 were stolen from the premises sometime during Friday night.
The theft was discovered the following morning.
