Police kill suspect during crossfire

Police were forced to retaliate and shot the man who died on scene.

EVANDER – Police shot dead a Lesotho national aged 32 during a crossfire on Friday, 20 May at around 10am.

Capt Magonseni Nkosi said the police received a phone call from residents who told them people were randomly firing shots at the eNkomeni settlement near Evander.

The police found three men who then fled the scene.

During their encounter, the man fired shots at the police.

Capt Nkosi said the police narrowly escaped death as several shots were targeted at them.

The police vehicle was damaged.

During the shooting, the police were forced to retaliate and shot the man who died on the scene. Police recovered a firearm from the deceased. The remaining two suspects were chased and the police caught one. He had in his possession a holster and two live ammunition. The deceased had a Lesotho passport with him.
