“Tell us which municipality we belong to”

Residents wait for three months minimum for their sewer to be drained.

EENDRACHT – Residents say Govan Mbeki Municipality has forgotten them regarding service delivery.

One resident went as far as to say the reason could be that Eendracht used to be occupied mostly by white people.

Most of the roads are not tarred and there are no street lights.

Residents said they also have to wait for three months, minimum, before the sewage is drained.

“They now know the people who talk too much and they make sure they drain only specific drains and leave the rest. Some get private people who have the equipment to drain the sewage and pay them to do the job that is supposed to be done by the municipality,” said the resident who showed the newspaper her rates and taxes account to show that she pays her account monthly.

Many of the water pipes burst and thousands of litres of clean water is being wasted on a daily basis.

Residents also complained that the storm water drainage never gets cleaned by the municipality.

The municipal spokesman, Mr Bheki Kubheka said their truck which is used for cleaning the septic tanks in Eendracht, was waiting to be tested after breakdown repairs. According to him, he said the truck would have been on site from 18 May.

Mr Kubheka urged the complainant to provide Council with the addresses of where the septic tanks are situated that were not cleaned for three months and also for the water pipe damage so they are able to attend to these problems.
