Sasol donates about R1.3-m to Famsa

Famsa OVC programme is growing strong with the help of Sasol.

eMBALENHLE – Sasol handed over a cheque of about R1.3-m to Famsa for its Orphan and Vulnerable Children Project that has been running for four years.

Famsa has increased the number of children involved in the project from 60 in 2013 and now has 120 children from eMbalenhle and Leandra.

They meet three days a week at the eMbalenhle Sasol Club for a nutritional meal, mental and social support, life skills, tutoring and spiritual support.

Sasol junior engineers also visit them weekly to assist with their homework.

This has resulted in an 80 per cent pass rate.

Ms Mashudu Ndou from Sasol called on other companies to come on board and collaborate with Sasol to support the project.

“Sasol is proud of the sterling work that has been done and salutes Famsa staff members, the Sasol junior engineers and everyone who participates in this programme.

“To Sasol, education is number one and we are pleased that these children are doing well at school.”

Ms Ndou encouraged the children and called on them to prioritise education and not to become statistics of crime and alcohol abuse.

Ms Sally Sono, a local social worker, commended Sasol for its contribution to the children.

She asked the kids to cooperate with Famsa and told them they a choice in what future they want.

Giving a massage of support on behalf the Govan Mbeki Municipality, Mr Sipho Masina, congratulated Famsa and urged them to continue with the good work.

He urged Sasol to support other organisations in the municipal area.

Ms Marcelle Bester, director of Famsa, thanked Sasol for its contribution to the project and all staff members involved in the programme.
