Davel Police nab dagga dealers

The two operations netted a total of 42,27kg of dagga.

A stop-and-search operation on the N17 by Davel Police two days before Christmas led to the discovery of 5,723 kg of dagga.

Police spokesman for Davel, Const Portia Nkosi, said police members, Capt. M.L. Thipe, W/O G. Janse Van Rensburg, W/O N. Nhlabathi, and Consts P. Nhlanhla, S. Sibuya and N. Sihlongonyane, were carrying out a stop-and-search between Davel and Bethal when a white Toyota Tazz was stopped and the passengers were searched.

A 24-year-old male was found in possession of a large quantity of dagga.

The suspect was charged with dealing in dagga and appeared in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court the following day.

In a second stop-and-search incident on the N17, two males aged 33 and 35 were arrested on 30 December for possession of dagga weighing 38,304kg.

Csts N. Sihlongonyane and S. Sibiya searched the vehicle the men were travelling in and came across the bags of dagga.

The suspects were taken into custody and were due to appear in court again on Friday, 8 January.
