Water wastage at the taxi rank

Water leak, taxi rank, Lekwa Municipality

The Standerton Taxi Rank has been having a problem with a water leak for more than a year.

It appears as though the tap was stolen from the pipe that was already leaking.

According to Mr Mandla Mbonani, chairman of the Standerton Taxi Association, he does not regard the taxi rank as a taxi rank.

He said it is more of a parking space that everyone can use, whenever they want.

“We have no control over the place and everybody does as he/she pleases.”

He confirmed that he knows about the leaking pipe and is against the water wastage.

“We are not happy about the current situation because this is the time when we should use water sparingly,” he also said.

According to him, they have reported the issue to the Lekwa Municipality.

“They promised to move the pipe and install another tap next to the toilets.”

He said they reached an agreement that there will be someone operating the tap.

“This was discussed at our last meeting with them.”

Mr Mbonani said they communicated with municipality about it again.

According to Mr Linda Tshabalala, municipal manager, the leaking pipe will be fixed.

He confirmed that the municipality would repair it on 24 November.
