Sport facility falls apart

The facility is allegedly dangerous late at night as no lights are working and anyone can enter without being noticed.

It was brought to the Standerton Advertiser’s attention that a sports facility in Morgenzon is slowly falling apart and the Lekwa Municipality allegedly is not doing anything about it.

The netball court is full of cracks and covered with weeds and the toilets in the bathrooms are in a terrible state.

The concrete fence surrounding the facility is also broken, making it easy for anyone to enter.

Mr Muso Khubeka of the DA said no one is using the facility anymore because everything inside is broken.

The other reason for it not being used is the distance from the township.

According to him, people would not mind the distance if the facility is cleaned up and maintained.

The lights are also not working anymore which makes the facility a breeding ground for criminal activity at night.

Mr Linda Tshabalala, municipal manager, said the facility has not yet been formally handed over to a sport council that could maintain it.

The municipality however accepts responsibility.
