Residents blame police for high crime rate

W/O Gerhard Elmes is always visible and responds to crime.

Residents are complaining about bad service from the Kinross Police Station and accuse officers of not responding to call-outs.

One resident said they even went to the station commander to complain about the poor service.

Some residents said they think the station is short staffed.

“I went to the station recently after we had phoned them and they kept on promising that they were coming, but they did not.

“When I arrived, they were sitting around and talking while the phone was ringing and was not answered,” said the resident.

Residents apparently went to the police station in groups and demanded answers regarding house-breakings.

Some said they will have no other choice but to take the law into their own hands.

Thistle Grove residents said W/O Gerhard Elmes is always visible and responds when they phone him, but they say he cannot do everything alone.

Kinross Police Station’s commander, Capt Philemon Matlala, said he was not aware of the allegations against the Kinross Police Station and asked residents to contact him should they experience any problem when they report cases.

He further said he always holds meetings with the residents and they never raised issues of poor service.
