Six men arrested for damaging a car

Alleged gangster group accuses motorist of reckless driving.

KINROSS – Six men aged between 18 and 27 years old were arrested for damaging a car on 10 October at 2am.

The men who allegedly belong to either the Spark Turns or Wrong Turns gangster groups, damaged a car because they accused the motorist of reckless driving when he made a U-turn at a T-junction near Devethos in Extension 25, Kinross.

It is alleged that the driver of the car came out of his car to apologise for his bad driving when the young men began to stone his car and smashed all the windows.

They also took his car keys and a cell phone.

Kinross residents provided the police with information about the suspects.

“During my investigation and with the information we received from the community, I managed to get the car keys and cell phone of the victim the following day,” said Det Sgt Kennedy Botha from the local police station.

He led the investigation team that included eMbalenhle police officers and the Secunda K9 Unit, to eMbalenhle where the men were reported to be hiding.

All six men were arrested.

They appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s Court on 12 October and were denied bail pending further investigation.

Det Sgt Botha thanked the eMbalenhle Police Station and Secunda K9 Unit for helping with the investigation which led to the arrest of the men.

“I would also like to commend the community for helping us with information.”
