Tragedy rocks Sheepmoor

Subsequent investigations led police to believe that the two deceased had been involved in a relationship.

The body of a 50-year-old man, Mfuneni Dladla, was found hanging from the roof of his home in Sheepmoor near Ermelo on Thursday morning, 13 August.

The police at Sheepmoor and the Mpumalanga Emergency Services personnel were called to the scene and Dladla was certified dead.

The next day, the body of a 32-year-old woman, identified as Nomvula Happy Mdluli, was found hidden in a stormwater drain alongside the railway line after she had earlier been reported missing by community members. She had been violently assaulted.

Police and Mpumalanga Emergency Services personnel were again called to the Sheepmoor area and the woman was confirmed dead.

Police spokesman for Sheepmoor, Const Khanyisile Mbingo, said subsequent investigations led police to believe that the two deceased had been involved in a relationship.

It is believed that Dladla may have murdered Mdluli and concealed the body in the drain before taking his own life.

An official inquest into the circumstances surrounding the deaths has been launched.
