Ermelo rocked by weekend of crime

Ermelo once again suffered a weekend of violent crime with at least four murders being reported between Friday 7 August and Sunday 9 August.

On Friday night at about 22:00, a 39-year-old man died outside the Mzoro Tavern in Joubert Street after he was stabbed in the left shoulder during an argument.
It is believed the deceased was playing pool when an argument broke out between the deceased and a youth.

The altercation was taken outside the premises where insults were exchanged. The argument then turned violent and the man was stabbed. A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder.

On Saturday morning at about 07:45, a pedestrian flagged down police who were on patrol and showed them the body of a man lying on the pavement on the corner of Cemetery and Joubert Street.

The deceased had been stabbed three times in the back and twice in the chest.
The deceased was clad only in a pink jersey and a grey briefs. A blue cap was found next to the body.

On Saturday night at about 22:15, the body of a 38-year-old man was found outside his home at Stand J875 in Extension 2 Wesselton. He had been stabbed in the forehead. No further details were available.

At about 00:45 on Sunday morning, staff of the Ermelo Provincial Hospital informed police that a 40-year-old man was pronounced dead on arrival after being brought to the hospital by friends.

He had been stabbed once in the chest and once in the back.

Preliminary investigations led police to believe the deceased had earlier visited Poppy’s Tavern in Wesselton.
He had collapsed after arriving at his home.
