MEC commends Commissioner

MEC Shongwe welcomed the arrests and applauded the Commissioner saying his commitment to dealing with crime and corruption was evident and exemplary.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison Vusi Shongwe has commended Mpumalanga SAPS Commissioner Lieutenant General Mark Magadlela for the arrest of 11 police officers.

Since the beggining of the month, 11 officers have been arrested in the province for various offences. According to SAPS, two of the 11 officers stationed at Pienaar Police station were arrested last week for allegedely soliciting bribes from suspects caught dealing with dagga.

The other nine were members of the K9 unit in Lydenburg were arrested on Tuesday by the Hawks for charges ranging from corruption, defeating the ends of justice among other charges.
