Race for a change

Race will begin at 10am.

Wear a Heel Race will be held on Saturday, 15 August in Sixth Street at the eMzinoni Stadium.

According to Ms Loraine Six, project coordinator from Sesifikile Youth Development Centre, men and women can compete if they are over the age of 18 years.

Entry fees payable prior the race day are R20 and R25 on the day of the race.

The race will begin at 10am and participants must wear a suitable 3.5cm minimum high heel shoe.

“It will be a one block race.

“Runners must begin and end the race on the high heels,” she said.

There will be first, second and third place prizes.

She also said the money that will be raised will be used to buy school uniforms and groceries for needy children.

After the race, women will give motivational speeches about life challenges and how to tackle some of them.

“We are also planning to invite the Department of Health to hold a cancer awareness campaign so that women know why it is important to get tested regularly.”

Sesifikile Youth Development Centre is an NPO that focuss on empowerment and development of the youth in the community.

“The main aim of this race is to empower young unemployed women and to help and support needy children,” said Ms Six.

The centre is asking the help of the community to donate items and prizes for the race.

They need donations for:

* Pink and white T-Shirts.

* Water or ice blocks.

* Gazebos for shelter.

* Goody bags.

* Medals.

* Barricading banners.

* Refreshments.

Any donation will help.

“We are counting on your support.”
