Sasol worker discovers dead man’s head

A decapitated body, with its right arm amputated, was found in one of Sasol’s coal shafts early on Sunday morning.

A Sasol employee made a gruesome discovery when he noticed the head of an unknown man on a conveyor belt of the coastal station.

The body, with its right arm amputated, was found in one of the coal shafts at the Synfuels Coal Supply facility at approximately 6am on Sunday, 7 June.

The man is still unidentified, but the preliminary investigation is underway.

The man allegedly gained unauthorised access to the facility, but what he was doing at the facility is still being investigated.

Mr Alex Anderson, head of Sasol Group Media Relations, said: “Sasol takes the safety of all personnel and the community serious and is cooperating with the relevant authorities.”

The police in conjunction with Sasol Intelligence Unit have instituted an investigation into this matter to determine what the victim was doing and whether he was an employee, a contractor or someone who was trespassing.

Police urged anyone with information that could assist in the probing of this matter, to contact the Secunda Police Station at 017 624 2125 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
