Lekwa Municipal spokesman refuses to release figures

Municipal spokesman refuses to answer questions about their recent meeting.

The Lekwa Municipality spokesman, Mr Sipho Mkwanazi is refusing to release the figures of how much money was recently spent during a strategic planning meeting at Loskop Dam.

He denied the municipality spent about R550 000 on the meeting, saying it was less than that.

“The story was published in the Standerton Advertiser, there’s no need for me to comment anymore,” Mr Mkwanazi also said.

According to Mr Pierre Schnetler, DA councillor, it is in the public’s interest to know how much money was spent.

“It’s taxpayers money and the people need to know how much the municipality spent,” Mr Schnetler said.

Mr Jaco Grobler, AfriForum assistant coordinator, said there was no need for the municipality to go away and spend large amounts of money, discussing existing issues.
