The Standerton Ibis is launching a photography competition with the first category being black and white portrait photos.

Portrait photography is photography of a person that displays the expression, personality and mood of the subject.

The photograph is usually the person’s face, although the entire body and background or context may be included.

There are generally four approaches that can be taken namely constructionist, environmental, candid and creative.

• constructionist – the photographer constructs an idea round the portrait

• environmental – depicts the subject in their environment

• candid – people are photographed without their knowledge when going about their daily business

• creative – digital manipulation is used to produce a photograph.

To all the enthusiasts, submit your black-and-white portrait photo and stand a chance to win a cash prize.

Visit our offices at 13B Burger Street and we will download the photo.

You may enter three photographs.

Join the stimulating world of photography and see where your photo ranks compared to other entries.

The closing date for the competition is 27 April and the winner will be announced in the Ibis on 29 April .

Competition for Standerton photographers only.
