Bethal Sector 2 hosts shooting practise day

Women and children in particular enjoyed the experience.

BETHAL – Bethal’s Sector 2 community policing forum recently held a family shooting day at the Mooifontein shooting range.

Altogether 34 people participated in the event and they consisted of 15 men, eight women and 11 children.

“It was a very successful event which provided our members with the opportunity to practice their eye and to hone in on their shooting and targeting skills,” said Mr Werner Herselman, chairperson.

According to him the women and children in particular enjoyed the experience.

Everyone had the chance to shoot with a number of different firearms and understood the safety aspects and responsibility with regards to owning and using a firearm.

Targets were made up of movie posters, falling metal plates and standard targets for short and long range weapons.

“The conduct of all the participants were exemplary and no safety issues or concerns were raised,” said Mr Herselman.

The proceedings began and ended with a safety briefing by Mr Herselman.

He thanked everyone involved for their commitment in making events such as these a success.

He expressed his gratitude towards Ms Marile Nieuwoudt who did all the coordination and planning for the event, as well as to everyone present for attending.

“This type of event should be held often and with the focus on getting more members and their families involved.

“The format of the shooting day will remain family orientated and the costs involved, especially regarding ammunition, will be reduced as far as possible for future events,” said Mr Herselman.

He thanked Bethal Weapons, Bethal Police and the SA Hunters Association for the use of the shooting range.

“Thank you to Mr Cobus Schoeman who kept an eye on the proceedings.”

The day was concluded with an enjoyable bring andbraai at a committee member’s house.
