Youngsters drive recklessly on motorcycles

The man had a young girl on the back of the motorbike and after passing Mr Bosman’s house for the umpteenth time, the girl’s helmet fell off.

Residents in Brits and Coligny Street are concerned that road users are neglecting the traffic laws.

According to Mr Wayne Bosman, an ex-traffic official who lives in Brits Street, not only adults, but young children are racing up and down the street on quad bikes, ignoring stop signs and speeding, without wearing helmets.

“It gets worse over the weekends and I spoke to the Provincial Traffic Department and they said they do not work on weekends, it is the work of the local traffic department,” Mr Bosman said.

According to him a man was driving his motorbike up and down the street on 22 January.

The man had a young girl on the back of the motorbike and after passing Mr Bosman’s house for the umpteenth time, the girl’s helmet fell off.

“He carried on driving to the top of the street, turned around and came back, picked the helmet up and drove off as though nothing had happened.

“Not only is the law not being enforced, the noise of these bikes is unbearable.
