Three local athletes recently participated in the Jeep Warrior Challenge held at Muldersdrift on 23 November.

Three local athletes recently participated in the Jeep Warrior Challenge held at Muldersdrift on 23 November.

This gruelling event pits man against himself while traversing a number of tough obstacles.

Manny Dos Reis participated in the 2014 Ops Elite Series, an event over 18 km dotted with 30 challenging obstacles .

Manny then qualified for the national race that took place at Heia Safari Ranch in Gauteng. This event was held over 23 km with 32 obstacles which included 1km of truck and trailer, log carrying, sand bag carrying, crawling through mud and many other tough challenges.

Manny competed in five of the eight events, including the nationals and finished in 13th place overall in the men’s category.

The V-2 father-and-son team of George and Johan Venter particpated in the Rookie category, finishing in first place.

60-year-old George said he was encouraged by his son Johan (33) who helped him negotiate the wet and muddy conditions .

“I can reccomend this type of activity for anyone, especially people of my age. It’s the ideal way to stay fit and healthy,” said George.
