Municipality unaware of road survey in Standerton?

Ms Nkosi also said she asked the traffic department and they too do not have any information on this.

Strips in several streets around town, resembling old speed traps, have residents wondering what the reason for it is.

According to a reliable source within the local traffic department, these are definitely not speed traps.

Somebody is, according to him, busy with a survey to find out many vehicles pass through town.

The source did not know who was doing the survey or who required the information.

According to Ms Thando Nkosi, an intern in the communications office of the Lekwa Municipality, she does not have any information on this.

Ms Nkosi also said she asked the traffic department and they too do not have any information on this.

“I have no knowledge of these strips, it could be Sanral,” Mr Pierre Schnetler, Ward 10 councillor, said.

“Sanral is doing construction work on the R23, but not in town and has nothing to do with the strips,” Mr Vusi Mona, general manager of communications at Sanral, said.

According to Mr Henry Masango, communications officer at the Govan Mbeki Municipality in Secunda, it is a traffic study done by the municipalities of Standerton, Secunda and Bethal to gain information on how many vehicles pass through the towns for future reference with regard to road upgrades.
