Herman takes over

SECUNDA – Mr Herman Brits (42) was appointed as the new general manager at Graceland Casino, Hotel and Resort recently and has many new ideas for the resort up his sleeve.

The new restaurant, Madison’s Bistro, opened its doors recently and there are better options at the Magic Company games section where children can now play unlimited games for R30.

Other projects are to relaunch Buffalo Bills bar and to bring back the karaoke.

Mr Brits’s career in the hotel industry began at the City Lodge Court Yard in Johannesburg where he worked in reception.

“I got bored in the evenings when it was quiet and began training the other employees like the gardener to use the computer,” said Mr Brits.

He then did all the software of several hotels and also gave staff training in the different hotels on how to use the software.

Mr Brits moved to Sun City where he worked in all the different departments.

He later moved to Kimberley where he helped to open a new hotel and moved back to Johannesburg after a few years where he worked at Emperor’s Palace as the hotel operations manager.

He worked in KwaZulu-Natal for Umfolozi Resort for five years before trading Umfolozi for Graceland.

“Graceland is a fantastic resort with fantastic opportunities for our clients.

“It is only one hour’s drive from Johannesburg and is still in the countryside.

“We offer an eighteen hole golf course and great entertainment,” said Mr Brits.

He believes in motivating his staff members to bring out the best in them.

“I am a natural motivator to create and nurture future managers.

“People must enjoy it to be at work.

“I have a fantastic team here with great potential and I want to spend more time on training them.”

In his free time, Mr Brits enjoys playing golf and watching sport.

He is a keen Blue Bulls supporter.
