Is the pump station working?

Sewage problems in Rooikoppen is still a nuisance to residents.

Rooikoppen has been experiencing major problems with sewage.

Manholes are overflowing everywhere in Rooikoppen and the pipes keep on bursting.

Residents claim that they have reported the matter to the Lekwa Municipality and were told that the pipes are too small and they need to be replaced.

The sewage has been flowing through Shukuma Primary School and is a health hazard to the pupils and teachers.

The pump station in Rooikoppen is not working and as a result the one in the industrial area is apparently used.

A group of employees were recently seen working at the Rooikoppen pump station.

According to Mr Sipho Mkwanazi, municipal spokesman, there is a contractor fixing the pump station.

“The contractor will be fixing the sewage system in Rooikoppen, because there has been a lot of sewage leaks in that area.”

He said the project began in October and is going to take about twelve month to complete.
