His stepdaughter opened a case of rape against him at the Pietermaritzburg Police Station in May.

Mr Gert Meiring, who was arrested on 4 September in connection with rape, has been cleared of all charges.

Mr Meiring first came to the Standerton Advertiser’s attention in May.

He was living in the graveyard because he and his wife had nowhere else to go.

The community got together and supported him in his time of need.

His stepdaughter opened a case of rape against him at the Pietermaritzburg Police Station in May.

He was later released on R500 bail and appeared again in a Pietermaritzburg court on 20 October.

“The case against Mr Meiring was withdrawn in the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court on 24 October,” Ms Candice Govender, office clerk at the court, said.
