Leandra stinks

Dockets of sewage case went missing.

LEANDRA – Rivers of sewage are probably the first thing motorists see when they pass Leandra on the N17 highway.

Cattle and birds drink from this sewage-filled water.

The Echo and Ridge Times have reported about the sewage problems in Leandra and Lebohang many times, but the problem still persists.

Sewage flows not only in the open fields next to Leandra and Lebohang, but between the houses and in the streets as well.

Residents are fed up and do not know what to do anymore.

The pump station in Leandra is also not working.

The sewage problem was so bad in August, that it flowed into residents’ homes and the head of marketing and communications of Govan Mbeki Municipality, Mr Henry Masango, at that time said they took notice of the problem and were working on finding a permanent solution.

However, he said last week: “We are aware of the problem and are attending to it.

“The infrastructure in Leandra is old.”

In the meantime residents have to live with the daily stench of sewage.

DA Councillor Tim Denny opened a case against the municipal manager and the head of the technical department in connection with the problem two years ago and he recently went to the police station to find out what was happening with this case, but learnt that the dockets went missing.
