Police recover 46,5kg of dagga

Police reject R5 000 bribe from dagga suspect

eMBALENHLE – The local police recovered 46,5kg of dagga and arrested a 52-year-old man in the Mandela Section on Thursday, 13 November.

The dagga was wrapped in 106 newspaper rolls and the estimated value is R31 800.

This discovery came after a community member tipped off the police about a dagga store room and supplier in the area.

Capt Magonseni Nkosi, police spokesman, said that on arrival the suspect did not want to open the door.

“He first tried to bribe the police with R5 000 and we had to force our way into the house,” said Capt Nkosi.

“We are not corrupt officials and condemn this type of behaviour.

“We are very concerned about the increase in drug suppliers.

“We are approaching the school holidays and our kids will be victims.

“The police urge people to report any crimes in their area.”

The recovery led to another recovery of 179 small plastic bags of suspected Nyaope.

In this instance, a woman was arrested in the Mandela Section who appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s Court last week.

She was released on bail and will appear again on 28 November.
