Lions will be chasing birds over the weekend

The Standerton Lions Club will host a diabetes screening on 16 November and a bird run on 17 November.

The Standerton Lions Club will be hard at work on 15 and 16 November.

They will be at the Spar parking lot on 15 November from 8am doing a diabetes screening for anyone interested.

The club screened about 183 patients in November 2009.

Altogether 19 patients had blood glucose levels of over 10mm/l and were referred to their doctor for further evaluation.

The highest recorded level was more than 22mm/l, which is life-threatening.

They will also host a Bird Run on 16 November, where a planned route will be followed to see how many species can be spotted.

The run will begin at their club house at 6.30am and will finish at the same place in the early afternoon.

Tickets are R150 a person, which include a breakfast at a local farm on the Heidelberg road.
