Wife murderer sentenced

eMbalenhle police welcome 18 year sentence of Aaron Mokoena who stabbed and killed his wife in 2013.

eMBALENHLE – Aaron Mokoena was found guilty in the Evander Magistrate’s Court and sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment for the murder of his wife, Ms Florence Mapela.

Mokoena killed his wife in 2013 and was arrested two days later.

Capt Magonseni Nkosi, police spokesman, said the murder was a result of domestic violence and abuse and she was killed a month after she had reported abuse to the police.

He urged people to learn to control their emotions and to always consult a marriage officer, a pastor or a counsellor if they are facing any difficult situation.

“Anger results in people doing things they will regret later.

“Our government and community have many structures that can help you deal with whatever you are facing, instead of taking things to heart.

“We are happy with the sentence and it will be a lesson to potential murderers and to people who think they can commit crime and get away with it.”

Police applauded Det Const Numbuyile Mthimunye for her commitment to ensure that Mokoena was arrested and given a satisfying sentence.
