Motorists unhappy about traffic signs and robots

Motorists are unhappy about the non-functioning traffic lights, small street names and not clearly visible street names.

Traffic light (robots) are meant to control traffic and make it flow easier, but that has not been happening in Standerton.

Some traffic lights have not been functioning for more than two weeks in certain parts of town.

While the robots are not working, motorists should regard the area as a four-way stop.

This means the right of way depends on the arrival of a particular vehicle at the stop line.

The driver that gets to the stop line first, regardless in which direction he wants to go, will go first.

Some motorists do not adhere to these rules and do as they please.

This can potentially increase car accidents and there are no traffic officers controlling the traffic.

Motorists also expressed their dissatisfaction about the road signs and street names that are not clearly visible.

Some are unhappy about the size of the street names, saying it is too small.

The road signs to the main entrance to town in Walter Sisulu Drive is no different, it is also faded.

Mr Sipho Mkwanazi, spokesman of the Lekwa Municipality, could not comment at the time of going to press.
