Sanco will fight for the right to have land

Sanco and land invanders say they will not fall for Council’s munipulation and dishonesty.

KINROSS – Sanco and illegal land invaders say they are ready to take the Govan Mbeki Municipality and the Red Ants head on.

This was after the Sheriff of the Court posted notice boards regarding evictions that will take place on Friday, 31 October.

Sanco claims that the municipality has not served any notices to the parties they represent, namely Zondagkraal 125 IS and Ward 20 in eMbalenhle.

Mr Sol Vilakazi, regional deputy chairman of Sanco, said: “We have not seen or received any eviction orders which tell us that we are not part of the people who will be evicted.

“If the municipality does unlawful evictions, they will be met with unlawful actions.

“Evicting the Zondagkraal 125 IS and Ward 20 residents will be a rape of justice.”

Mr Vilakazi said he is against people who invade land, but Kinross and Ward 20 residents have a need.

“ This was perpetuated by the Govan Mbeki Municipality who fail to conduct stand allocations properly.

“Residents were on the waiting list for the allocations, but officials gave stands to their friends and families.

“To prove their seriousness and honesty, the residents have engaged with the Premier’s office regarding this matter and also took it to court.

“As the court process and engagement were ongoing, Council decided to take another route and obtained the so-called ‘Blanket order’.

“They did not even give us that order until we asked our lawyers to intervene.

“The municipality is failing our people.”

Mr Henry Masango, head of communication and marketing, said notice boards were erected at all the affected areas as per the court order, but at places like Ward 20 they were immediately vandalised and removed by the illegal land invaders.

“This medium of communication was but one of the many used to communicate the court’s decision, such as a notice in a newspapers and on radio.”
