Past Moumakwe retires

Kinross Assemblies of God will host a farewell celebration service for Past Jacob and Jane Moumakwe on Sunday, 2 November from 9am.

KINROSS – Past Jacob Moumakwe (74) of Assemblies of God is retiring after serving the church for 31 years.

He was converted in 1965 days after his marriage to Ms Jane Moumakwe and he was convinced that he had found his own salvation and felt called to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

“My wife suggested that we go to church because we had many problems as a young couple.

“Though I was drunk the night before, we went to church and I had a hungover.

“The Word was preached and we got saved.

“From that day on I stopped living under the influence of alcohol and began living under the influence of the Holy Spirit.”

He relocated to Thabazimbi soon after his conversion where he began preaching.

A highlight in his early days of ministry was when he preached and a shebeen queen repented.

Her shebeen was closed and converted into a church.

He was also the driver and interpreter of the Late Past Nicholas Bhengu.

Past Bhengu was one of the most successful twentieth-century Pentecostal church leaders in South Africa and co-founder of the Assemblies of God in the country.

“He was very strict about what money was used for, both in the home and the church, and how it was spent.

“He taught his children to not ask for money and he never asked anybody for money for himself.

“He was a man of faith.”

Past Moumakwe served various churches, such as eMbalenhle, eMalahleni, Devon, Standerton, Sebokeng and many others.

He has been married to Ms Jane Moumakwe for 49 years and they have four children and seven grandchildren

“I am happy that it is time to pass the baton on to the young stars.

“My advice to the young pastors is that they look onto Jesus as the author and the finisher of their faith.”

He thanked his wife, children and members of the Assemblies of God for their love and support.

Past Moumakwe will now enjoy his retirement at his Evander home and will often visit various assemblies in the country.

Kinross Assemblies of God will have his farewell celebration service on Sunday, 2 November from 9am.
