IEC hosts outreach project for farming communities

The IEC will host an outreach project on 2 November to educate and inform the farming community before the next general elections.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) will host an outreach project on 2 November to educate and inform the farming community before the next general elections.

It will be held at the Matalaza Farm School on the R23 Road towards Heidelberg at 10am and transport will be provided, as well as lunch and soft drinks catered for.

The IEC is a state institution established in terms of Chapter 9 of the South African Constitution to strengthen and deepen constitutional democracy.

Their mandate is to:

• Manage elections of national, provincial and municipal legislative bodies in accordance with national legislation,

• Ensure that those elections are free and fair and

• Declare the results of those elections within a period prescribed by national legislation, which is as short as reasonably possible.

The current vision of the IEC is to be a pre–eminent leader in electoral democracy.

The IEC, in partnership with other stakeholders, will embark on a campaign to educate the community on their rights and responsibilities, promote participation in electoral democracy and encourage social cohesion and national pride.

Buses will pick up the workers from 8am.
