Pupils lead police to dagga supplier

Police held a crime prevention campaign at the Thomas Nhlabathi Secondary School.

eMBALENHLE – Police held a school-based crime prevention campaign at the Thomas Nhlabathi Secondary School on Thursday, 23 October.

The aim was to curb drug dealings at schools and the police will be doing random searches for drugs at schools.

Capt Magonseni Nkosi, spokesman for eMbalenhle Police Station, said: “The school-based crime prevention was a success, because through information we got from pupils we were able to find out who some of the dealers are.

“Though no one was arrested, those who distribute drugs in our area will be arrested soon.

“We also want to bring safety to schools and raise awareness among pupils about the dangers of substance abuse so that learning and teaching are more effective.

“Drug use at local schools is a problem and results in theft of teachers’ property and affects the effectiveness of teacher and a pupil relations.”

The pupils who were found with drugs and those who were identified to be using drugs, were taken to the police station for questioning and counselling.

Through information received from the pupils, the police went the house of a suspected dagga supplier, but he was not home.
