Widening of bridges possibly delayed

According to concerned motorists on the R23 Road towards Johannesburg, permission to widen the bridges has not been given.

Motorists have been left wondering how much water must flow under the bridge before they get answers.

According to them permission to widen the bridges on the R23 Road towards Johannesburg has not been given.

“They have added extra lanes on the road, but the bridges remain narrow and the Department of Water Affairs apparently has not consented to the widening,” a concerned motorist, that uses the road to town and back daily, said.

He also said it poses a threat to motorists.

“The construction on the R23 has nothing to do with the Lekwa Council, the South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) is in charge of the construction,” Mr Jaco Prinsloo, municipal developer, said.

Mr Prinsloo also said the contractor will only follow orders given by SANRAL and the chief engineer working on the project.
