Eight arrested in connection with copper cable theft

Captain says the increase in copper caple theft is a serious concern and asks residents to cooparate with the police in reducing this type of crime.

eMBALENHLE – Police have reported a high increase in copper cable theft in the area.

They have arrested nine people in the past five days in connection with this type of crime.

The first suspects were arrested for being in possession of copper cable and grinders to the value of R15 000.

The other three were arrested in Extension 26 for being in possession of copper cable to the value of R200 000.

It is alleged that they were on their way to deliver the alleged stolen property to a local scrapyard.

They apparently stole the copper cable from a construction company in Sasol.

Capt Magonzeni Nkosi applauded the police officers who are working hard to make sure that crime is reduced in the area.

“We are committed as members of the police services to make sure that eMbalenhle is not a hub for criminals.

“We ask the community to cooperate and report any crime or suspicious people.

“It is through the cooperative of the police and community, that crime will be reduced.”

All suspects appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 6 October.
