Fake policeman arrested

The 25-year-old man will appear in the Evander Magistrate’s Court for allegedly claiming to be a policeman.

eMBALENHLE – Capt Magonzeni Nkosi condemns people who commit various crimes by pretending to be policemen.

He warned residents to not give money to or trust anyone who claims to be a police officer if he or she does not produce a police appointment card.

This card must have his or her face, rank and identity number on it.

Capt Nkosi said this after a 25-year-old man driving a grey van was arrested for allegedly demanding money from a foreign national.

It is alleged that he went to the man’s tuck shop and produced a copy with a police logo and asked for SARS documents from the shop owner.

When the owner did not have the document, he demanded money.

Capt Nkosi said the estimate amount that this man allegedly stole from tuck shop owners, is about R10 000.

The suspect appeared in court on Monday, 6 October.
