‘Will the justice system fail us again?,’ ask family.

Suspect in the murder of Ms Andile Mpila will reappear in court on Monday, 27 October.

eMZINONI – Friends and family of the late Ms Andile Mpila are not pleased with how her murder case is being handled by the court.

They say the murder suspect was granted R500 bail and is free and is living his life as though nothing had happened.

Ms Mpila was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend in March.

She was found in his room by the police and family members after he had called Ms Mpila’s cousin saying that an incident had occurred.

“He was arrested, but what is annoying is that he had privileges in those police cells.

“He appeared in court in April to testify, which I honestly think was ridiculous because he said Ms Mpila mistakenly stabbed herself in the neck.

“If it was a mistake, why he did not call for an ambulance?

“His family got him a lawyer, but unfortunately Andile’s family can not afford one.

“I thought the evidence that was given in court was going to give the court a reason to keep him in custody, but to my surprise he was granted bail.

“Seeing him brought pain and sadness.

“He is even on Facebook and you can tell he is living and enjoying his life.

“We wait for the verdict and are wondering whether he will be sentenced.

“So far we are disappointed with the justice system.”

The man will reappear in the Bethal Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 October.
