Businessman reaches out to needy families

Ermelo: Two Wesselton families were lost for words to describe how grateful they were to receive much needed groceries from Umshiza Construction, a local business owned by Mr Bongani Qwati.

Ms Xoliswa Ntsele of Thandolwethu Home Based Care identified the families after Mr Qwati looked for families in need of help with groceries.

The idea started when a young boy approached Mr Qwati and asked him for food as he was starving and scavenging in dirty rubbish bins for something to eat.

Mr Qwati asked to be taken to the boy’s home and met his family. After seeing the family’s difficult situation and living conditions, he did not hesitate to assist.

Mr Qwati has since come up with a non-profit project “Feed the nation with umshiza”.

With the project, he intends to assist at least three different families monthly with the help of local home-based care groups and the Department of Social Development to identify these families.

The unemployed Mr January Mnisi a father of three and Ms Ms Thembi Nkosi with a family of seven were grateful to both Mr Qwati and Ms Ntsele for the help.
